Hi-Rise RA Joe John Sanchez ’07 will be hosting a discussion on the chalking policy and how to fight it tomorrow at 3pm.
What is the deal with chalking? Why is there a ban? Why are you fighting it? Why aren’t you fighting it? Is the ban limiting your freedom of speech? Is it preventing hateful writing? What was the deal with Maria Cruz-Saco’s e-mail? Pissed off that the ban still exists when you weren’t here to cause it? Pissed off that people still care about the ban when they weren’t even here to see what caused it? Huh? What?
Come to the Hi-Rise lounge any time between 3-5 tomorrow for a very informal discussion on chalking, and how you can take action to exercise your student voice without getting SJB’ed. Considering postering is not against the rules, posters will be made expressing student concerns, saying random things, or whatever you’d like. However, hate speech will not be tolerated. While I recognize that some argue that not allowing it is ignoring that these thoughts do exist…The point here is to take a POSITIVE, CREATIVE, and INTELLIGENT approach.
Be there…whether you hate chalk, love chalk, and especially if you don’t understand what the big deal is about it.
Oh, there will also be cookies. But BYOM (Bring your own milk).
