Let Dougie know what he’s up against

Because the majority of the Wesleyan community is not aware…

This THURSDAY, November 2 at 7:00PM, President Doug Bennet will be visiting WestCo Lounge with intentions of “discussing his vision for Wesleyan’s future, sharing his thoughts on the presidential search, and answering questions.” Considering the lack of access that all students have to Doug Bennet, and the urgency now, more than ever that students have their voices heard, I encourage anyone with opinions on the university’s policies and recent campus activity to attend.

My concern is that the issues and agendas that need to be aggressively voiced will not be, unless the greater Wesleyan community and its mostpassionate members are represented. Ideally we will pack an aggressive, informed and vocal student body into the lounge. Do not allow Bennet to casually lecture about his strategic plan to a largely freshman audience.

An upperclassmen presence will not be expected at this “open, community discussion” with Doug Bennet, which is why it is essential that knowledge of this event is not restricted to WestCo residents. Please, generously forward this information to upperclassmen and non-westco residents. Hopefully, a strong community presence will continue to send a message to the administration that student voices cannot be systematically ignored without consequence. This is also an opportunity to create awareness among underclassmen who may not be aware of the depth and history of the current unrest on campus.

Didn’t Bennet get rid of his regular office hours before the events of fall ’04? Wasn’t that one of the things people were upset about?Am I remembering the history completely wrong?

the plan is for him to visit all of the dorms and all of the visits are SUPPOSED to be for the residence of that dorm, to allow for a small, more intimate conversation. of course that can’t happen if students storm the westco lounge. if you actually want more access to president bennet why would you want to be antagonistic? the whole reason he doesn’t host office hours any more is because of the fiasco that happened when he used to have them.i bet this event will be a disaster and he won’t want to visit the rest of the dorms, which will reaffirm my belief that most campus activists are motivated by their desire to be seen than by anything else.

Are you talking about the sophomore dinner? He was here for a sophomore dinner to discuss his career. That happened on Monday. -Leana

He’ll be in Hewitt sometime, unless he already was. I saw a big poster up advertising his visit on the kitchen windows.
