Skittles Vodka Revisited

Remember this post on Skittles vodka? Two very brave subjects set out to taste test this wondrous substance. Here is their story.

First: Buy Skittles. Here, four packs were used, which was a little bit too much for a 750mL handle of vodka. All the green and purple skittles were picked out.

Put the red, orange and yellow Skittles in an empty bottle. This one was chosen for aesthetics.

Pour the (cheap) vodka into the bottle. Cap it off and shake!

Some green was experimented with as well.

This is what it looks like about half an hour after the vodka is added. The vodka has already turned a scary salmon color, and the color-leached candies sit like tasty eyeballs at the bottom of the bottle.

The next day, the grand experiment continued. It was time to filter all the floating candy bits out of the vodka.

Straining with a tea filter didn’t work well enough, and neither did a coffee mesh filter. No paper coffee filters could be found!

Finally, a clean t-shirt seemed to fit the bill.

A few spills later, the Skittles vodka was complete!

Taste impressions:

Subject 1 – “Like Dubra, but with a strong tropical Skittles aftertaste. Or not really aftertaste–Like a middletaste?”
Subject 2 – “I feel the need to follow this with a lollipop chaser.”

Conclusion: Great as a novelty drink, not actually that great just as a…drink. But it would look sexy sitting on a countertop.

I have made this drink many times, and it’s one of my favorites. If you try it and it doesn’t taste good, it’s probably because you haven’t filtered it properly. Also, if you only wait one day, you won’t get much out of the skittles. You’ll get the flavor, but none of the sweetness. If you want it done right, let it sit for 2 days, filter out all the white stuff (it’s called ming and it’s very distasteful), let it sit for another 6 hours to a day, filter it a second time, and the result is a beautifully sweet vodka that can very easily get you drunk before you even notice it.

You used way too many skittles. In the directions I watched online it said to take a 5th and pour out about an inch under the neck of the bottle. Then add the skittles till the level of the vodka is a little under the rim. It would seem to me that your vodka would be overrun with the taste of skittles.Mixing Option: Crushed Rainbow + Skittles Vodka + Sprite = Refreshing Summer Drink

It tastes very, very good if you mix it about 50/50 with pineapple juice. Although it tastes scarily non alcoholic and as such should probably be givena wide berth by those not well versed in the art of drinking :P
