MGMT gets signed to Columbia Records

From HSB:

Columbia Records has signed MGMT (pronounced “The Management”). The duo had originally released an EP, Time to Pretend, on Cantora Records, of which I was a fan. It was six songs of playful electro-pop that is fun, catchy and pretty solid overall. I’ve been told that the new stuff for their full length goes along the same lines, with similar dark lyrics accompanied by upbeat tunes, so that’s a good sign. Be sure to look out for these guys next year when they start to get more buzz going.

FUCKING YES.

(Freshmen and clueless sophomores: The Management was a Wesleyan band. They graduated in 2005. Listen to their music.)

Rich boy nepotism? I think not. My friend who interned at Columbia showed it to his boss and she totally flipped out as did everyone in the A&R office. She then showed it to the US and UK presidents, who flipped out as well. Steve Lillywhite flipped out (Wikipedia that dude). I hear 36 Mafia flipped out. For the record, those dudes weren’t rich at all. They sure as fuck are now. Haterz fall back.
