How Much Should a Person Consume?
The Question as answered by Gandhi, Galbraith, and the German Greens
Ramachandra Guha will reflect on the history and politics of environmentalism in two large ecologically and culturally diverse democracies — India and the United States. Taking as his point of departure the dominant environmental philosophies in these two countries — identified as “agrarianism” in India and “wilderness thinking” in the U.S. — Guha critiques privileged and isolationist proponents of conservation, and argues for a biosphere that cares as much for humans as for other species.
