Target Wars in Mtown

A bunch of Middletowners made their opposition to the construction of a Target downtown known on this past Tuesday:

Residents decried “the great black wall with a department-store logo” that would rise from Dingwall and deKoven drives, just yards from Route 9, “to mar the city’s streetscape.” The plan, they said, would soak up millions in federal parking revenue that would be better spent on parking lots scattered throughout downtown.

“Defeat this inherently third-rate, unfixable proposal that would block for decades plans that would benefit the river and downtown,” said Judith Brown of Mansfield Terrace. “For the sake of future generations, I ask you to reject this.”
