Female Leaders Wanted

Glamour (I know, that repository of feminism) holds a contest every year seeking out the top ten women who have had an impact in their communities.

“For the past 49 years, Glamour has been combing college campuses for some of the most inspiring females in the country (click on the link below to see this year’s awe-inspiring bunch). Previous winners include politicians, CEOs, high-powered doctors and lawyers —even Martha Stewart! If you’re a college junior with leadership experience, excellence in your field of study and unique career goals, you could be part of this elite group.”

Sound like you or someone you know? Give it a shot!

I don’t necessarily agree that they are overall so impressive. What they share in common is proactively responding to a terrible event that they have witnessed or experienced. Is it just me or do all of the people who are recognized for being so successful either seem to come from very privileged backgrounds or from places of hardship. Are those of mediocre origins doomed to remain mediocre?
