Andrea Silenzi ’07 on NPR

Andrea Silenzi ’07 who recently felt the wrath of the New York Times was interviewed by NPR about the whole story of her blog ripping the MetroDiary a new one..

On a personal note, I wonder if no one else but me is upset by the patronizing airs with which people are approaching this. Because Andrea is 21, they think it’s totally ok to threaten her future prospects. If she happened to be a 41 year old woman in an office job, what leverage would they have against her? Does anyone think it’s a little bit off that people like Michael Pollak can get away with exploiting the youth-factor involved? Anyone else a little pissed off by that fact?

I mostly have just been thinking about how totally badass Andrea is. But you’re quite right.

I don’t think a modest letter-writing campaign to the editor of the NYTimes would be out of order. Demanding an apology from Michael Pollak for making threats bordering on blackmail? Wouldn’t this kind of behavior, if directed at older people, as Holly pointed out, be grounds for firing at a prestigious institution so into its own right-mindedness?
