Does this creep anyone else out?
An official website explains the project in greater detail and includes an “interesting facts” section with tidbits like this:
Due to its immense scale and unique shape, The Palm, Jumeirah and The Palm, Jebel Ali are visible from space with the naked eye.
If all the fill materials used to build one Palm island were placed end to end, a wall two meters high and half a metre thick could circle the world three times.
I thought the Great Wall of China was the only man-made creation visible from space?
Also in the course of looking up the artificially constructed and shaped land masses, this NYtimes article, published today, popped up. It explains that the Dubai government, which has “been on a buying spree in the United States, purchasing a raft of high-profile businesses and real estate,” just bought Barneys New York for $825 million.
And to think, I hadn’t heard anything about Dubai since 9th grade geography.
