Oh boy. Up a Spot. Down a spot (and no one cares)

The US News and World Report upped us downed us this year from #12 #10 to #11, where we tie with Grinnell, Claremont McKenna, and Vassar. (see?! I care so very little I don’t even remember what we were last year or the year before.)

Seriously, though, how cool would it be for Michael Roth to be the first top 30 liberal arts president to say fuck you to US News? This article from MSNBC says it can’t and won’t be done. (However, it actually was done–by Reed, a long-standing #10 school. And that’s why Reed is #54 now.)

Oh the drama! The dramaaaaa!

methinks you don’t know the lady since the lady is writing half her thesis on how much the rankings have destroyed the college admissions process.

methinks the lady doth protest too much… we get it we get it, you don’t care, but i’m sure if we move up to #5 or something you would have totally gloated and written a celebratory post.

I don’t think pulling out of the rankings is such a great idea. What does the school have to gain? I agree the rankings are undoubtedly stupid, but the only way they can be eliminated is if the top schools (Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore, etc…) do it. Otherwise, it will be everyone pulling out except the top couple, and then we’ll be exactly where we started.

I think we were #10 last year. So up down, yes, doesn’t really matter. If we had more money, we’d be higher.

While the act of pulling out of these ratings would actually inspire feelings of pride in my alma mater that I currently lack, I sincerely doubt such a thing would ever occur. Unless, of course, Mike Roth is crafted of pure, unadulterated awesome.
