Skye LoGuidice ’09 on Grammy Ballot

Skye LoGuidice ’09 is on the ballot for 3 Grammys:

LoGuidice, who musically goes by Skye Claire, is listed on the 50th Annual Grammy Awards official ballot in three categories. The singer-songwriter was chosen among thousands of artists and bands nation-wide.

“I haven’t told that many people yet, because I don’t know how to react to this, or how to bring it into a conversation,” says LoGuidice, who learned of her ballot placement Oct. 30. “It’s hard to just say to someone, ‘I am on the Grammy ballot.’ I’m still spending a lot of time in my room just freaking out.”

Skye Claire is on the ballot in Category 1: Record of the Year with her song, “Hope It Helps;” Category 5: Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Hope it Helps;” and Category 11: Best Pop Vocal Album for her seven-track 2006 EP Good Boys Don’t.

She writes her songs based on actual events that have occurred in her life, tackling love, life and loss. She sets her vocals to guitar in rock-infused pop.

“A lot of that album is about a guy I broke up with my freshman year at Wes,” LoGuidice says. “And my most recent songs are about my new boyfriend. He’s a student here, too.”

Oh dear. Well, congratulations, anyway, Skye!

You got the talentless part right, but the funny thing is mommy and daddy really don’t have any major connections at all – unless you count growing up in the same hood as guido trash Alfonse D’Amato as a kid (which is nothing to brag about around LI) lolol

LOL – I think you’re using the word famous a little too freely here….more like infamous at holy trinity for being a spoiled/sheltered only-child – who conveniently disregards the fact that the preliminary ballot is in NO way a nomination whatsoever. There’s a difference between embellishing and straight-up lying. Congrats on your nominat… i mean, bluff.

the trouble here is the clash between viewing Skye as an actual wesleyan student and a pop music person. people attack pop musicians, and defend their college friends. sorry skye, the more famous you get, the more people who know you only as the pop musician.

A message to Skye:Take heart, remember that since all of these messages are anonymous, they could easily be from the same person or a few people. That’s the problem with anonymous posting.Anyway, I admit that I know nothing about your music, but I’ve only heard positive things about you. So good luck with everything, I hope things work out

my friend told me that people were bashing me on this thing, so let me set the record straight:1) if you want to criticize me, feel free to email me at blueskyemusic@aol.com and have the courage to do it somewhere other than this blog.2) I went to Holy Trinity, which happens to be a pretty shitty catholic highschool, not Exeter or whatever boarding school that you probably went to.3) I’m from LONG BEACH not manhattan.4) I write all my own music, I work really hard, and the only thing I was guaranteed by having the privilege of working with Al Gomes is to have him mail my CD to the LA grammy office, where it was handed off to a commitee that has nothing to do with him. If you did your research, you’d know that he represents over 40 artists and that I was one of only 3 to get nominated. Over 30,000 people submit to the grammy office and only 200 get put into each category. As to your comment about my myspace, if you checked you’d also know that I got over 500 plays on my page yesterday.5) I would love to put you on the list for my December 11th show so you can witness my “mediocre pop chords” in person. THanks for sticking up for me whoever did! You guys rock.

8:59, how many of those “wannabe[s] since the late 80s” have standing gigs at legit new york city clubs (ever heard of cbgbs? the bitter end?). skye is legit and far past the wesleyan house party scene.yes, her music is extremely commercial (i’d say more michelle branch than avril lavigne), but the formula works. people like it and more than a couple of those people are in the academy.congratulations, skye. ignore the petty haters.

Honestly are ANY of these stabs at Skye necessary? A. I doubt any of you actually know her background. B. She is so talented and nice. Why not take the time you spent bashing her and use it instead to get to know her. Really now. Grow up.

the same power-pop chords and song structure and quasi-spunky/profound lyrics and turn-it-up-a-notch key change as every other wannabe since the late 80’s. Sounds like Avril would sound if Avril didn’t have a quality recording studio, quality producer, and a kid who went to Berkelee writing most of her songs.the music is decently catchy, and she could play some fun wesleyan house parties, and people would enjoy it, so good for her. but it’s silly to think that she was sought out and nominated for the grammy’s because someone noticed her talent and her growing ‘popularity’ amid the vast ocean of young musicians – she’s a manhattanite, and this is obviously from her parents’ connections.

I like how she thinks she’s “nominated” for 3 grammy’s (being on the ballot and being nominated are COMPLETELY different things). I don’t really understand how exactly she got on the ballot when her music and voice are pretty mundane. Then again, the Grammy’s have nominated some pretty untalented people (like Avril Lavigne and Britney Spears) so I guess I’m not too surprised. I like her style though, and there’s potential if she eventually gets a professionally produced album.

11:18, it’s called the “music business” because both parts are necessary. If this upsets you then move to a commune and sing you own songs for free.BTW, just listed to Skye for the first time off her site. Amazing talent.

Just like your mom and dad probably supplemented your talents by sending you to Phillips Exeter or some other pretentious prep school… and to think you only ended up at Wesleyan. News flash: They were thinking Harvard when they sent you there. You let them down. Waste of $$. Now go cry.

Jealousy is the tribute mediocrity pays to genius.I’m sure your mom and dad wouldn’t supplement your career if you sucked now, would they? And 11:18, you do suck. Get a life.

Wow. That was incredibly and unjustifiably vicious. What did you gain from attacking Skye like that? Leave her alone, she’s an amazingly talented person. Why can’t we all rally behind her? Good luck, Skye!

What you wont read (and she wont tell you) is that it cost mommy and daddy well over $3,000 paid to Big Noise – in the contract its written that Al Gomes automatically puts you on the Grammy ballot in a few categories with hundreds and thousands of other no-name artists. I guess money can buy everything!! Hahahaaaa – I mean…think about it. 2 plays a day on mySpace and 10 albums sold and you think she’s gonna win a grammy?? Riiiight. I’m sure the Grammy committee was knocking her door down. What a farse. So pathetic…

Did you write that Holly, or was it posted elsewhere and you did a cut and paste? (i.e. is this plagiarism young lady and will I have to turn you in because of our honor code!?)
