Looking to waste some (more) time?
With finals coming up, probably not, but I figured I’d remind everyone about Free Rice — the site where you can answer vocab questions and get rice donated through the UN to help fight world hunger. 20 grains of rice are now donated for each word you get right instead of 10., and close to 400 million grains of rice were donated just yesterday.
what does that F5 trick do?

You’re not compelled to do anything, but you are given the opportunity to, and apparently some people do, as they’re still advertising on the site.

So when you play on freerice, you’re compelled to buy Allé Fine Jewelry? Shop at FragranceNet for all your perfume needs? Get a Blue Cash credit card for your small business?I really doubt the advertisers will see any difference. And if freerice wants to limit automated playing systems, they could easily do so. But for now it bumps up their numbers, and makes their ad space even more desirable.I guess I see your point, though.

They get the money but if that happens a lot then the people doing the advertising don’t get any money and pull their advertising and THEN freerice.com doesn’t get any money.

They do get the money, because they can’t tell if the browser sending a request to see the ad was automated or was controlled by an ad-loving human being. It’s like holding down F5 on a regular ad supported site. But even faster, and it actually plays the game.

That means the advertisers don’t get any money though, which is where the money comes from to actually donate the rice. If that was done enough advertisers wouldn’t advertise on the site and the project would fail. They specifically ask people not to do that in their FAQ.

we need to figure something out with the double-posting. It’s happened three times this week.
