the power of the Spoon

As much as I’m all about discussing meal plan math (I do think it’s important), I really feel like “the power of the Spoon” needs to be fully explored. Can we just establish that it’s a little funny that they gave us wooden spoons? I mean, I feel like a campus email probably would have done the trick. Anyway, I quote:

“Bon Appétit is pleased to empower the holder of this Spoon with the ability to take any action necessary to ensure that the quality of our food services meets and exceeds the highest standards.” (italics mine)

ANY action? Hmm…
Given the broadness of the power of the Spoon, I invite you to submit some sort of documentation of you or someone else wielding the Spoon. This opportunity is too ridiculous not to take…so go ahead, make use of your new wooden cutlery and send me a picture. Or not, whatever (it’s late on a Friday and I’m trying really hard not to study).

I think we should have a campus wide game of spoons, perhaps not until January though…(this idea was not originally mine, but it was too fantastic not to suggest)

I think 7:18 was referring to the spoon that s/he already has… and the bacteria and grease in the spoons at my house never bothered me those 18 years…

I received one too and called BA about what the spoon power really means. The woman who answered the phone just told me about the changes in the meal plan. I think the whole superpower thing is a hoax.

Did anyone actually…read the flyer? It says Marketplace breakfast is now All-You-Care-To-Stuff-Down-Your-Gullet for just 5.50 points. That’s like the cost of an egg sandwich, coffee and piece of fruit at the old campus center.

I will bring the spoon with me every time I go eat there now, and I will wave it high above my head every time I have to ask something of or make a suggestion to DELMARCRIM

anon 4:13;you can have my lovely, possibly French spoon if you promise to do something cool with it. Give me your box number, and I’ll send it to you. Really.(if you’re not anon 4:13, please don’t be a jerk)

Mark, my spoon is of Slovenian origin. The transferability of the powers is something I hadn’t thought about. It does seem like the workers could use some help in their struggle to maintain their benefits!

dear anon 1:31mmmyessss… good point.A fair number of students received in their mailboxes shiny tri-fold flyers containing wooden spoons, the text quoted in “the power of the Spoon post”, info about meal plans, and some of BAs overdone publicity. My spoon, at least, was apparently made in France.

I was just suggesting today that we should cover the Usdan entrances with snow in order to provide insulation and save more energy…They seem to be calling us to action.

Giving us—even encouraging us, by virtue of providing us the spoons—the ability to take “any action necessary” seems a pretty broad mandate. I wonder what Bon Appétit would do if we staged a hostile takeover of the Daniel Commons and sandbagged the entrances to the kitchens… all in the name of higher quality food services?
