IKEA’s U.S. homepage says, in big bold letters, “Are you ready to take advantage of us?” So perhaps it’s only fitting that Mark Malkoff, a comedian and filmmaker, will be living in the IKEA store at Paramus, New Jersey—for a week. And he’ll be filming it.
Sophie Pollitt-Cohen ’09 is a Production Assistant for the short film, episodes of which will be uploaded everyday, starting tomorrow.
Check it out at Mark Lives in IKEA.

huh; one of Bon Appetit’s flyers has the phrase “take advantage of us” The “are you ready to…” takes it to the next level, though.

The previous poster made a good point. Who cares about some guy living in Ikea? It sounds dreadfully boring, not to mention a cheap ripoff of “Where the Heart Is”. Its too bad he can’t get pregnant and have a baby in Ikea. That, I’d watch.

@isaac:Speaking of commenting without sufficint information…When I checked the website it was just a picture of Mark, and none of that information. Google cache says marklivesinikea.com was at most 4 days old before I posted. But now I see. Thanks. Though I still don’t like publicity stunts. I view his “171 Starbucks” thing similarly; as an uncomfortable hybrid of reality TV and advertising.

@Anon 10:45: interesting how you comment without reading the actual website. If you had, you’d know he got IKEA’s permission and this is a humorous publicity stunt. They’re even letting him use the showers in the back room.Great Wesleying Post BTW, keep up the quality blogging.

They’ll just kick him out on day one. They have security at ikea. Saying “But you said ‘Are you ready to take advantage of us?'” won’t stop you getting arrested for trespassing. The only way this could work is if they already made a deal with the manager to let him live there for a week. Which would take away what little entertainment potential there was in the first place.
