An anonymous tipster pointed this out:
UMich isnt taking it seriously, the company making money off of the blog is.
They are also linking directly to a URL that votes for them.
http://www.usnews.com/poll/extPollResults.php3?pollId=48&optionId=6&pop=1&expiration=1201842000
That’s the URL that automatically votes for Wesleying.
I went to the Michigan page. Turns out it’s true.
One commenter responded: “you posted the wrong link, all that does is take you to the results page NOT the voting page”
The blogger responds, “it’s a direct voting link for Michigan. I saved you the trouble of checking the box.”
A third commenter responds: “Wesleyin are a bunch of tools. Let’s BTJC that community college!”
Interesting. To learn more about Wesleying’s dealings with OTR last year, please click here.
UPDATE:

You do realize that, if they win, OTR will use this as a marketing/investment point?”Look! One of our lolcatz repositories won an anonymous web poll… with the word US News in its name!””OTR blog empire rated best blogosphere in US News poll”

The most dishonest thing about the autovote links on every OTR page is that they say “Vote for them now!”, but every link (even the one on the text “Wisconsin”) goes to autovote for UMich OTR.Wisconsin OTR readers, or those planning on voting for Wisconsin OTR, are duped into voting for UMich’s blog, with no way of verifying their vote.

As someone who has gone to community college, I can say (with authority that a douchebag at UMich probably cannot) that Wesleyan is not a community college. That said, there’s really nothing wrong with community college. It simply serves different people than Wesleyan and its peer institutions — including the occasional future Wesleyan alum.
