Today’s Hartford Courant made mention of Michael Roth‘s blogging today.
One of the first blogs Michael Roth posted this fall after becoming Wesleyan University president contained his thoughts on global warming.
He told his readers he does a little composting at home. He said he had met with a student environmental group. He talked about evaluating energy use in campus buildings and developing courses about climate change.
To his surprise, more than 50 students and alumni replied. Most were pleased he was taking the issue seriously but chided him for not going far enough.
“They were saying, ‘Come on Roth! This is a real problem. What are you going to do about it?'” Roth said. “Students used this to show me how they felt.”
Roth then met with student leaders and, at their urging, signed the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, pledging to reduce global warming emissions and educate students about environmental issues.
At Wesleyan, Roth said his blog gives him a chance to be less formal.
“It’s a good way of communicating in an informal way with lots of different people. I’ve come to enjoy writing it,” Roth said.
Unfortunately, there was no mention of Wesleying’s SuperRoth.
