If Nader was really devoted to public service and wanted to build up the influence of third parties or work effectively on the issues he supports, he wouldn’t be running for president, wasting lots of his and other people’s time and money for something that has no effect. He might, instead, choose to help Green candidates get elected to local and state offices. When Nader gets .3% of the vote again this year (or even he moves back towards his high of ~3%), he will have accomplished exactly nothing by running for president again, except further eroding his reputation.

Nader is not running to win the election. He’s running to build up the influence of the third party in american politics.

Nader is considered illegitimate by the two major parties but not illegitimate under the constitution.

Honest question here, but if Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel or Ron Paul couldn’t get a seat at the table to “enlighten” the debate, what the makes you think that socially illegitimate (and I say this objectively as in the majority of the nation finds him an illegitimate candidate–not uust because he’s third party) Ralph Nader will?Just curious.

I echo Adam Fishman’s comments. Nader will improve the quality of tone of the presidential race as he runs without the political distortions of the major party candidates.

i think ralph nader is great. incomparably better than any democratic or republican candidate. he has incredible integrity, he’s articulate and his words are substantive, and he conveys a feeling of duty and weight behind everything that he does… a degree of sincerity that clinton, obama and mccain don’t come near. there’s an intolerable cynicism behind people who shamelessly criticize someone as piously devoted to public service as ralph nader. i’m glad nader is running.

Gore didn’t lose. It’s absurd how quickly we’ve managed to forget that Bush took power through crime.

nader isn’t why gore lost. if he didn’t run, someone better would have, and gore would have won by an even larger margin.america always needs a third party candidate to laugh at. nader is a good placeholder with a history of fail
