“MGMT have elicited hosannas from pretty much every music magazine on the planet. The surprising thing is, they actually live up to the hype.”

Bonus from their online blurb “MORE MGMT!”:
The psych-pop duo (ignore their Surf/Jungle/Country MySpace classification) has been pushing the boundaries ever since forming, unintentionally, when freshmen Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden would play 15-minute versions of songs such as Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer” at college parties. They soon got to traveling as a band and in 2004 met Dottie and Jamie from Of Montreal in Athens, Georgia, who they invited to a show. It was one to remember, according to MGMT: “We covered ourselves in butter and played in a kitchen. They liked that and the rest is history.”
After graduating in 2005 from Wesleyan (which seems to be making itself into a bastion of indie cool, turning out M.I.A.-like musician Santogold and The New York Times Magazine fashion spreads), the pair opened three nationwide tours for Of Montreal.
Also, “Time to Pretend” is on the 21 soundtrack.
