Public Safety’s policy for 4-20

Public safety had a presence on foss hill last year, but only a few students got in trouble. Their limited enforcement policy may be at an end. This email was recently sent to Wesleyan’s reslife staff. I wouldn’t be surprised if similar emails were sent in previous years though, so perhaps this really doesn’t mean anything.

Hi everyone,

As you know, Sunday, April 20th is “4/20,” and many students are planning to meet on Foss Hill at 4:20 PM for a unified pot-smoking party. Please remind your residents that possession/use of marijuana is a violation of the Code of Non Academic Conduct and inform them that Public Safety will be on Foss Hill on Sunday afternoon.

I hope you all get an opportunity to enjoy some of the many WesFest events this weekend.

    what is “fucked up”, 1:22? Pot is illegal and they’re trying to mind the law. Don’t be an idiot, be discreet about smoking your weed, and you probably won’t be bothered. If, on the other hand, you have a two-foot long bong that you and fifteen people are hitting in the middle of the hill, you will probably be dealing with somebody who will, at the VERY least, tell you to put that shit away. It’s highly unlikely that they’ll be picking through the crowd and stomping out every joint, but don’t be all entitled and act it’s like your supposedly natural right to be an irresponsible stoner is being taken away or something.

    I was an RA for the past two years and we have never gotten an email like this before. So, I dont know if it means there is more a crackdown, but it is definetly something new.One more reason Wesleyan is starting to suck…..

    If PSafe was SJB’ing students and/or MPD would be called in, THEY WOULD SAY SO!!! The whole purpose of this is to scare us into not going out there in the first place, if there were plans to arrest or SJB, they would use that fear to keep us off the hill.PSafe was on the hill last year, and they just went around and asked people to stop smoking. They didn’t write anyone up, they didn’t get anyone in trouble, UNLESS the person gave the officer shit OR the person was dealing. Anyone who politely complied and waited for the officer to move on before resuming was fine.THEREFORE, if a PSafe officer approaches you, just stop smoking, apologize, and be polite. If there are hundreds (or thousands) of us on the hill, they won’t have the resources or desire to write anyone up. You only need to be careful if you’re selling.
