Facebook Ads Mistake us for 15 year olds

If you look at the left hand side of facebook, you know that they have the obligatory ads popping up. But lately they’ve become increasingly more directed to playing on our insecurities. From the “ew gross” one of a girl in jeans to this frutels ad, that sells acne medicine in the form of CANDY, it seems that facebook thinks we’re 15 year olds, scared shitless about how we look. So really, are we that easy to manipulate?

Yeah, since I entered that I was in a relationship, I see a little box with a broken heart that says, “Going through a breakup?” or something. I’m so dreading the day when I actually am going through a breakup and that little ad makes me cry. Facebook has always been very tactless about relationship issues though.

Facebook is scary. With the amount of information we surrender, willingly or otherwise, I’m sure they’re targeting ads to us using many more factors than just gender!

Really? That’s so interesting. I get a lot about meeting cute guys (never girls) and mostly they’re geared toward losing weight. I bet that they have a way to do ads according to your gender. Gross!

Adam, me too. It seems like every ad is either for “Hot Local Singles”, “Sexy BBW”, “Girls Next Door”, or “Men for Men”.
