NBC30 runs report on Fountain Ave. incident

NBC30 is running the Fountain Ave. incident as one of their top stories. Their reporters, along with those of WTNH, were at the scene. Tune in to channel 30 on your TV and watch for the report, which I imagine will be cycled throughout the morning.

NBC30 can be viewed live online (but their 6am report can be listened to below).
Justin, 6:11 AM: I’ve recorded the audio from NBC30’s 6:00 broadcast. New details, according to NBC30’s Sean Phillips:

  • As many as 200 students hanging out
  • 3 students arrested
  • The cops apparently made three calls for students to disperse, and someone may have thrown a cup of beer onto a police cruiser, prompting the response.
  • Two students tasered

Edit (Jacon, 6:18 AM): I realize those are the facts outlined in the news broadcast, but they’re not quite right. Five students were initially taken into custody, although at least one (possibly 2) were released with no charges. There were two cups/bottles thrown: one early, as the police first arrived, and one late, after they used the megaphone to call for dispersion.

Justin, 6:47 AM: Reports from NBC30 and WTNH have been offering different details and conflicting reports. It’s not only in the details, though… they are framing the story very differently. Listen to the NBC30 report (above, this post), then check out Xue’s post with video from WTNH.

NBC30: “block party”
WTNH: “out of control party”

NBC30: “crowd of students” … “200 students” … “one student”
WTNH: “four wesleyan kids” … “kids” … “one kid in the hospital”

Justin, 9:08 AM: NBC30 has posted their story online. Includes text, images, and video.

Regarding the comment above (5:38 AM), the poster is referring to an audio clip of a WTNH news report that I erroneously posted with this entry. This entry refers to the NBC30 report. I’ve removed the audio link, and apologize for the error.

shit’s about to hit the fan here at wesleyan. although i wasn’t there, i cannot imagine any kind of party on fountain that would elicit this amount or kind of violence. i have been through numerous senior weeks at wes, and crazy, well-attended parties always happen in the backyards of fountain. it just makes no sense to me that a party could have gotten SO out of hand that local and state police, dogs, pepper spray, TASERS, bullets, and whatnot were needed. the fact that the newscaster claimed the police “did what they NEEDED to do” is just laughable. it was a college party. i didnt’t know that a college party now equals a riot. this is totally insane.
