This is the 6am run-though.
Names and charges have been released on the WTNH website. In the meantime, we’re not posting them here.
Rashida Richardson ’08 has a first-person account up at The Prereq. Excerpt:
“I called 911 telling them that students were getting injured and I was bit by a dog, and she said police were already there, they weren’t going to send more. EMT and EMS were at the end of the street (at Church) but they couldn’t get in to Fountain because they were blocked by a line of police cars…”
“The police were telling us that we had to leave [Fountain] because if there were an emergency, an ambulance wouldn’t be able to get through, but here they were creating this emergency.
“Later when I told a cop one of your dogs bit me, he said ‘You shouldn’t have been in the street.’
“I explained how I have freedom of assembly and [the street] is Wesleyan-owned, and I was on the sidewalk anyway. He said that I have ‘the right to shut the fuck up.’

And Wesleying isn’t posting the names of the arrested students, why? If it was 5 cops accused of brutality you’d have their names and photos up in a second. I fact I think you did exactly that with a cop accused of verbally abusing a student last month. But when it’s one of us NFW – even though their names are part of the public record and THREE of them have gone on TV. Typical.

Rashida: it fucking sucks that you got bitten. Police behavior was unacceptable last night, and you didn’t deserve an animal bite, but you really should have known better…(1) cops are morons and they don’t come over for a dialog – they are not interested in a conversation about con law. attempting one pisses them off. if you do feel your right of party has been infringed, there are more appropriate and productive channels for voicing that concern.(2) freedom of assembly? please. it was a college block party – which means it probably wasn’t worth the cops’ trouble – but it wasn’t exactly a protest either.(3) streets are city property. cops can also enter university buildings with prob cause. you knew that, right?
