Ben Cohen ’10 tips in that if you check your E-Portfolio, there’s a link to a “Meal Plan Selection” option. The choices seem to be:
- Block 105 Meals / 675 Points
- block 135 Meals / 475 Points
- Block 165 Meals / 275 Points
- Block 210 Meals / 100 Points
- Block 285 Meals / 50 Points
- All Declining Balance Plan – 0 Meals /1478 Points
Note that there’s an additional fee for selecting the 285 Meal plan.
No word yet on whether this is officially what’s going to be happening in the fall or just a bug in our portfolios.
Cohen also points out:
For the sake of comparison, Aramark’s block meal plan was 165 meals/165 points (110 fewer than BA’s 165-meal plan), which I believe amounted to about 11 meals a IIRC (I usually ate at Davenport 3 times a week, and I didn’t run out of meals). I figured this could be useful…

liza and anon8:19,thanks for the info. yes, i heard that the bigwigs at BA are very disappointed with the staff that they hired (i.e. Delmar, etc.) and are doing a thorough “spring cleaning.”hallelujah. after seeing the thesis documentary, Power of the Spoon, i think this is the wisest decision they could make.BA does the food for google! its embarassing that wesleyan dining has turned out so miserably.

Well this sucks. I want a few meals but there’s no way I’m going to get close to 105 meals. Guess I’ll just stick to points and take the hit. Ah well, I can always just sneak into usdan.

11:15 If you do the math, it is actually pretty similar. If you convert the old scale to the new scale: 8 meals per week x 14 weeks in a semester = 112 block meals/ 600 points. So compared to the 105 block meals/ 675 points: the difference of 7 meals, if all dinners (9.25), would require 75 points. However, BA doesn’t give any option similar to the 5 meals/week plan which would convert to 70 block meals/ 900 points.

wait, what the fuck?wasn’t it something like 600 points per 8 meals per week and 900 points for 5 meals per week (both per semester) last year? this is far beyond worse than last year… what the fuck is this shit? (i mean, if this is final.) fucking bonapp always pissing people off.

nick: i have heard information from reliable sources that the higher-ups weren’t happy with BA’s catering, especially during the first semester–BA kept screwing up what and how much they needed, there were all sorts of other problems, and it wasn’t the price they wanted (shocker, eh?) considering what they were getting. apparently it was so bad that they seriously threatened to void the contract after next year (it’s a 5-year contract, i believe). i’d love to know whom they’d bring in if they gave BA the heave-ho, but in any case, BA made tons of concessions, including significantly lowered prices and a “24-hour emergency catering hotline” (i don’t know either…)–sort of like how they substantially overhauled everything after the first semester. my guess would be that this is another one of their attempts to not get booted–though if you read the old WSA minutes, this is what they originally promised in the first place. BA does NOT want to lose this gig, and it’s entirely possible that they got rid of all their old management types.and if anyone from the WSA is listening (becky?), you might want to try putting the full-court press on BA for some extra weshop hours in light of this…

it’s a block plan. you get that many meals for the semester and you can spend them however you please.

are meals allotted by week? or do you get X meals for a semester to spend as you wish? for example, could i eat 3 meals a day until my meals run out, and then switch to just using my points? (not that i would want to do this… i’m just wondering)

this is bullshit! this is 100x worse than last year. and sophmores can’t choose the 105 meals/675 points plan! why couldn’t it just stay the same.

If you know you’re going to be eating more than a certain number of meals per week, there’s a slight point advantage, I believe (especially if those meals will be dinners, not lunches). I had five meals a week as a junior and it worked out well – it was also kind of an insurance that even if I spent like crazy and ran out of points at the end of the semester, I’d still have meals left.

is there any reason for juniors or seniors NOT to go all-points?

oh yeah, haha. 3.75 came from assuming it was for the whole year. I guess 7.5 seems reasonable, but from the people i’ve talked to, most people didn’t like the 8 meal plan. Maybe with the changes last semester (meals for all 3 times of daY) could make it more flexible.

105 meals per week over 14 weeks would come to 7.5 meals per week, which is much more reasonable than 3.75 :)Still, I hope they add in an option a little more similar to their 5 meals a week option this year – that worked out really well for me :) 7.5 meals a week for non-freshmen would be… a lot for a minimum.

there are 14 weeks in a semester not counting fall break (dunno if that’s a whole week or not. I forget). So these plans are EXTREMELY high on meals if it’s for each semester. Also, the 105 meal plan comes out to 3.75 meals per week…and 675 points. That’s pretty low. 135 meal plan = 9 meals a week. Kind of insane too. I doubt this is final.
