Obama-Biden ’08

CNN cites “multiple sources” informing it that Barack Obama has picked longtime Delaware senator Joe Biden to be his running mate. The New York Times has also posted an article with the same news. The text message to his supporters is scheduled to be sent this morning. Both Evan Bayh (Indiana) and Tim Kaine (Virginia) have been informed that they have not been picked, as has Hillary.

OK, here we go – play the race card as soon as you possibly can. Lame and so tired. Did Kerry lose because he was White? Against George Bush – who had a sub 40% popularity rating and was presiding over the worst year of the Iraq war!? No – he lost because this is still a centrist nation. The “racist America” Obama argument just fall so flat. He won primaries Iowa, New Hampshire, Wyoming, and in all those other “white” states didn’t he? (I defy you to find a black person in Iowa who isn’t just passing through). If he loses it’s because he’s the MOST liberal member of the US Senate running with the third most liberal member of the senate – by voting record – as his VP. This is what the democrats fail to get – and it’s why Ned Lamont – remember him? – a far left-leaning liberal, couldn’t win an election against Joe “I’m a back-up Republican” Lieberman in one of the bluest states in the Nation. Because even most of the Democrats in this nation aren’t far left, and a plurality of the population of the country’s voters still don’t want a far left government running the country. And that’s why Obama will lose. Period.

Obama will lose the election because America still has significant numbers of ignorant, prejudiced people who will not vote for a black man under any circumstances. It is truly sad that, with this country about to fall off the cliff on so many levels, voters may actually end up electing a person who could well produce the final push that sends us tumbling into the abyss. Very, very sad.

Biden actually said…”I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,…I mean, that’s a storybook, man.” It was the “FIRST” that got him in trouble not the “CLEAN”.

Nope. You’re going to do that yourselves.CNN reported yesterday – much to their own Obama-leaning dismay – that 23% of Dems who supported Hillary in the primaries now plan to vote for Big Mac. What was so disconcerting, Anderson Cooper said with the gravitas usually saved for natural disasters, is that the poll was take 24 hours AFTER Biden was formally announced as Obama’s VP. If even half this number holds up in the general election Obama will lose. And if McCain picks Colin Powell, a rumor now gaining steam, that may draw an additional 5% of the African American vote (Again, CNN saying this, this time Wolf “I love Barack” Blitzer). If Barack doesn’t get his hoped for 10 point bounce off the convention it could be game over before September even comes. Love it!

All the rationalizations are coming out now! I love it. And the fractured talk of “unity.” The Dems are going to screw this all up (see 04 when Kerry couldn’t beat a war-time president who NO ONE liked) and McCain will be inaugurated in January 09. I LOVE IT!!!!

hey. chill. obama would be president, not biden. and biden can offer TREMENDOUS advice in regards to foreign policy to ANYONE. personally, i’m thrilled he’s on the ticket and not worried even for a second that he would compromise Obama’s positions on important issues. Obama is strong-minded… i don’t think Biden would make him racist (even if Biden were racist… which he isn’t). Can we also consider for a second that ALL the other potential options for VP are incredibly boring? Biden is very engaging… i like listening to what he has to say. plus, despite some misguided views, he is highly intelligent.

Wow really, 11:51? Are you saying VP Dick Cheney didn’t really matter at all in the past 8 years? Really?

Regarding “clean” – that’s a throwback to pre-civil rights rhetoric. Many racists and white supremacists purported that black people were dirty, or because of the color of their skin, they could be dirty and you wouldn’t know it. “Clean” was a back-handed compliment toward a black person from a white person. It mean, “the right kind of black person.” That’s why this comment by Biden drew so much scathing criticism and scorn.
