Megafaun, The Shade, At Earth House

Megafaun is playing this Friday at Earth House, with Wes acts The Shade and Jacob Millstein ’09 opening. From AuralWes:

MEGAFAUN is your mama’s mama’s ancient hand-stitched patchwork quilt accumulating mildew in the hall closet. Ripping at the seams with a hundred years of musical history, it’s hand claps, tape manipulation, Beach Boys harmonies, melodies your grandpa might hum, and lyrical advice he might give you. It’s also kind of psychedelic. You may (you should) remember these dudes opening for Akron/Family last spring

Members Joe Westerlund, Phil Cook and Brad Cook hail from Eau Claire, Wisconsin but are currently based in Durham, North Carolina – a locale probably better suited to their particular brand of experimental old-time American folk. That description hopefully merits a listen: Megafaun’s Lazy Suicide and Beloved Binge (via Hype Machine).

Wesleyan’s own THE SHADE (Adam Tinkle ’08, Josh Koenig ’09, Matt Paterson ’09, Will Brandt ’10 and Jake Nussbaum ’10) will open Friday’s festivities. From what I hear of Adam’s solo work this summer, we’re in for some sweet sentimental guitar work with a bit of Jon Brion-esque violin arrangement. You may (you definitely should) remember these dudes playing a party last year without any clothes on.

Also, Sam Bernhardt ’10 announces:

Jacob Millstein ’09 is beginning the whole shebang. However, nobody is opening for Jacob Millstein, thats just the beginning. The end is Megafaun. They opened for Akron/Family last year, and enjoyed us enjoying them so much that they are back.
