The Return of Hot Soup

Bernice Laille informs us that the Usdan Cafe will now be serving hot soup for $2.95 daily. You can also get a “soup card” where you’ll receive one free soup after the purchase of 10 soups. Could this be in response to a Wespeak recently written by said poster? In any event, I’ll be meeting with our dining director, Michael Strumpf, this Friday, so if you have any other items you would like to see at the Cafe, please feel free to comment.

Edit [at 2:51pm] : Your feedback has been great. As for now, I can only focus on the Cafe downstairs, and not the marketplace. However, you can bring a lot of these suggestions to the Student Affairs Committee (which is headed by Becky Weiss ’10) and as one commenter pointed out, you can also give Bon Appetit feedback here.

I second the motion for a vegan meal option with protein at the Cafe all the time. It’s so frustrating when I don’t have the time/points to go to the Marketplace, but there aren’t any reasonable vegetarian/vegan lunch/dinner options downstairs. If there were such an option consistently, I’d find myself at the Cafe far more often!

A few requests for Usdan/ Bon Appetit;1. A sandwich station similar to the old Montague’s Deli in the old campus center. -or- 1′.improve the quality of sandwich materials in Usdan Marketplace. I miss pesto spread, cheddar cheese, and those flavorful, crisp yet squishy Italian grinder rolls. This is soo important for a good sandwich. Roast beef would be nice sometimes too…2. Sriracha hot sauce EVERYWHERE. This can make any mediocre food passably yummy.3. Team up with Mamoun’s falafel cart so that students can pay in points.4. Put up some wasp traps outside on the Usdan balcony! Seriously!5. Switch back to only 4-tined forks – does ANYONE like the 3-pronged ones? They don’t pick up food well. I’d rather use chopsticks (which would be a good addition!).6. Maybe the salad bar/deli/soup area could be spread out more or put half on the window side because only two people can get to these things at a time, which causes huge clusters of waiting students. If these relatively minor things were fixed/changed, eating at Usdan would be so pleasing!

i think it’s kind of ridiculous that they charge $.50 for late night to-go. at other colleges i’ve been to, getting a to-go container isn’t such a huge issue. usually they’re just around in the dining hall so people can grab food to go without a hassle.

please bring up bringing “to go” to dinner! It would be enormously helpful for many students.

The Summerfields dinner specials during the week should also always have a vegetarian option.

@12:15: but last year, the switch to AYCE for lunch was supposed to help decrease BA’s costs and let them purchase more meat. besides, those stupid fried patties are awful. at least IMO.

My respect for Claire Potter just increased significantly, and I already thought she was pretty cool. There should ALWAYS be cookies. And not shitty weird ones. Chocolate chip.

what happened to those croissant sandwiches they had last year, with turkey, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and AVOCADO? they were so good and always the first thing to go. the turkey sandwiches now are really boring.

i think the grilled chicken is a cost issue. breaded pieces of deep friend sponge… yum!kind of unrelated, but why is there no milk dispenser at summerfields. fresh fruit at the waffle station. it was so much better before everything came out of a can.hot chocolate & cider!

thirded bringing back grilled chicken to usdan. every once in a while they bring it back but it’s only for one day. what is the logic of taking away the most popular item at lunch?

I have another question, and please feel free to email me with the answer. How did you set up this meeting? I tried last year to set up meetings about making the new dining options more vegan friendly, but I was never able to actually meet with anyone. Did you send an email? Did they contact you? Whom would I contact? ThanksKatecgavriel@wes

YES please please please bring grilled chicken back to usdan during lunch. it is so much healthier and better than all those other “grill” options and pizza. i used to make wonderful chicken sandwiches. also… late night back to summerfields! it’s so weird that it’s still in usdan.

the salad dressings at usdan are a major problem. they are disgusting. they are usually creamy, which is unhealthy and unappetizing and there is no variety. there should be an “asian” sesame/ginger/carrot/whatever option both upstairs and downstairs…not that oily excuse for “asian” dressing that tastes like straight-up oil with a few rotten sesame seeds. and bring back grilled chicken to usdan upstairs!

More vegan foods with protein. Right now, they only have tebouleh wraps and hummus wraps. Why not tofu or tempeh? I really miss the old wraps from vegan cafe. Please make sure that at least one of the soups is always vegan. They should also label all the salad dressings with allergens or ingredients so that people know what they are eating. This comment could be extended to the whole of Bon Appetit foods.

In regards to upstairs, not the cafe, can Bon Appetite please add Turkey Bacon to the breakfast/brunch menu? It’d be much appreciated
