Guest Mealz 4 Realz

Some useful information (if a bit late) that it seems most people were unaware of and that’s conspicuously absent from BA’s dining service overview. According to Dean Rick Culliton, you can now use two meals per semester as guest meals. That’s about 103 fewer meals than you should be able to use to treat others, but as upperclassmen undoubtedly recall, there were no guest meals at all last year. So for those of you who are out of points, despair not!

On a related note, hopefully I’m not the only one who finds it moderately disturbing (on multiple counts) that this information was never shared with us and that I was only able to find it out through an e-mail on the parents’ listserv…

[EDIT] Looks like this was a bit premature. According to Dean Rick (comment #11), this was something that was discussed by the Dining Committee but ultimately not implemented.

It’s a 5-year contract, but word on the street is that they may get the axe after this year. Apparently the higher-ups were quite dissatisfied with BA’s catering last year, both quality- and cost-wise. I don’t know if there’s an opt-out clause, though…Though I could certainly see Wes eliminating campus dining services in order to cut costs.

I apologize for misspeaking about the guest meals-this is not something that has been put into place. What I recalled were our conversations in the dining committee last year considering this change. As some have already pointed out, this is not a change that was ultimately put in place but I imagine will be looked at again at the end of this year and considered along with other possible changes to the dining program.Dean Rick

only two??? boston university gives 10, and considering we’re exponentially better than BU, we should get at least 100

This is the first I’ve heard about the change. We’ve brought it up as an idea in almost every dining committee meeting, so I’m glad the administration responded (even if they didn’t bother to tell us!).Jen

7:37 – Interesting. This is the exact text of Dean Rick’s reply:”As a result of student input last year, this year students can use two of their meals as guest meals each semester. This was not the case in the past and was added at the request of the student dining committee.”Anyone know about this supposed change? Jen? Saul?
