Be an SAT tutor for a good cause!

Want to help someone get to college? Volunteer one evening a week with Let’s Get Ready!

Rachel Levenson ’12 sends in some info about LGR:

LGR is a FREE college access program serving the under-resourced students of Meriden and Middletown. The program consists of 39 hours of intensive SAT preparation and 15 hours of real college preparation, which includes searching for colleges, writing application essays, and financial planning.

As a tutor, you’d be given a class of 5 students with whom you’d meet once a week throughout the semester and guide along the path to college. Training, curriculum, and full support is provided by the program – you just need to bring an interest in tutoring and your enthusiasm.

Where: OH Platt High School, Meriden (Transportation from Wesleyan is provided)
When: February 24 – April 29, 2009 (Tuesday or Wednesday Nights, 6:00–8:30 PM)

Sound like something you want to do? I participated in LGR two semesters ago, and I can vouch that this is an amazing program that seriously helps the kids in your class, and can also be a transformative and powerful experience for you as a tutor. It’s also a great way to get out of the Wesleyan Bubble and meet some awesome high school students… not to mention get some valuable teaching experience.

Want to learn more? Come to an information session:

When: January 27th or January 28th at 6pm
Where: PAC 104
Why: There will be free food! (also, it’s a cool program.)

Or contact Matt at 508.397.6569 or Rachel at 650.996.9453, or at wesleyanlgr(at) Also, you can apply directly here.
