Information sessions on being an abortion clinic escort are being held tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday in Usdan. Elaine Lauriat ’09 writes:
Escort training is required every semester for everyone, because we combine our training with our semester sign-ups. Even if you’ve done this before, you still need to come so that you can sign up for days and get the scoop!
Clinic escorting is a small time commitment–once or maybe twice a semester, you’ll go in a group of four to Summit Women’s Center in Bridgeport (a 45-50 minute drive), where abortions are performed on Tuesdays and Fridays. We leave campus at 6:30am and are back in time for 10 am class. There is a very active group of protesters at the clinic, so our job is to be a supportive presence to counteract the harassment women face as they approach the clinic. We simply walk with women who want an escort to the clinic door.
If this sounds like something you might be interested in, come to one of the training sessions! All class years and genders welcome!
Date: Thursday, Feb. 5; Friday, Feb. 6
