9:45 PM – Loud Noise – Ruckus.com

The Ruckus has ended. That’s right; the free music service to which ITS had purchased a university-wide subscription is no more. Visitors to Ruckus’s website are greeted with the following:

I think it was Sam who pointed out last year that the service operated on an alarmingly flawed business model. Looks like the inability to play songs on anything other than their (god-awful) player finally came back to hurt them. Ruckus, fare thee well.

:( I loved Ruckus. I am sad to see it go. Especially since it is immensely difficult to get any music here in Athens, so I will have to rely on my extremely slow torrents. You had at least one fan, Ruckus. And I’m with 1:54 AM: It was soo easy to strip the DRM from ruckus songs. It took literally seconds. Probably a quarter of my music collection came from Ruckus.

You fools! Liberating ruckus music to play it on any Mp3 player was easy! Now I guess I’ll have to resort to piracy to satisfy my thirst for new music….
