Meditation, Tai Chi and Kung Fu Classes

The Small Forest Temple is offering classes in meditation, tai chi and kung fu through WesWELL, all taught by priests of the Small Forest Shaolin Temple with 40 years of combined teaching experience.

Temple Meditation – The essential practice of Chan (Zen), meditation
Instruction and practice in traditional Chan meditation. Chan is the mother discipline of Zen. It is a completely non-religious practice of spiritual awakening. Come clarify your life, and understand the cause and effect nature (karma) of your personal challenges.

Temple Tai Chi
Temple Tai Chi (Shaolin Chuan) training is a practice to cultivate power and peace in harmony and to experience a union with the infinite. Shaolin arts emphasize the internal. This exercise performed correctly, is a personal cultivation of peace and power in harmony, a silent prayer of union with the infinite. Some of the many benefits include increased concentration, mental efficiency, clarity of perception and personal confidence to be yourself.

Temple Shaolin Kung Fu
Temple Shaolin Kung Fu (Southern Tiger Style ) is for those who have not been physically active, as well as those who have been. Real effectiveness is a result of mastery of skill, not of size or muscle power. Temple training stresses the development of internal strength, and how it is effective in any situation.

First semester of training: The ultimate self-defense strategy, The ability to physically release yourself from any situation (grab or hold), An introduction to the fundamentals of defense and strike

Second semester of training (White sash training): The basic internal and external principles of stances, strikes and defensive maneuvers completes the requirements to test for blue sash certificate (second level of training).

Cardio Kickboxing
One hour of fun and sweat for health, liveliness and exercise! By whatever name it is called, all such exercise systems are based on fast and lively repetitions of movements loosely based on martial arts techniques. This is not for self-defense, simply for health benefits, tension release and great fun. Everyone contributes their favorite music!

Note: This is an all-levels class and is appropriate for anyone, whether you have previous experience with Cardio Kickboxing or not.
