Hate walking to computer labs in the cold…

…only to find that all the computers are taken? ITS now has a list of the availability of computers in each lab on its website. Nicely done.

11:35- amen. I know this is PC-central, but lighten up, everyone. Are you really going to get worked up over something so stupid?Ben- I don’t think you were wrong in your original post. FYI

Yeah, CFA Lab now has 5 computers available (as of 12:15) and is now colored green. Interesting that there are apparently four computers in use in the Language Lab and one in Keck Lab, even though both closed at 10:00. Oh well, all the more reason to logout when you leave.

@11:38 – I think the red coloring occurs when fewer than a certain number of computers are free (CFA lab had 4/12 free and was red when I wrote the original post).

What’s the red versus the green coloring? It has Olin and CFA as red, but still with free computers (at 11:30PM)…ok, now (11:35PM) it refreshed and only CFA is red…but still, why?

It concerns me that people actually become so thoroughly indoctrinated into this University’s hypersensitivity training that they become offended by something so trivial.

Hey what’s the CFA lab? it says there are 3/12 computers left. I had no idea there was a computer lab at the CFA

the WSA is looking into ESuds, which is the same thing as the LaundryView you’re speaking of.

wow, ben, really? i actually have to spell this out for you? words have genders attached to them:boys= malefellas= malefriends= gender neutralguys= traditionally male, but used in modern casual speech as gender neutral.it is not “overly PC” (whatever that means) to expect that you won’t pretend that ITS only has male members when it in fact does not. so pick any colloquial gender-neutral term you want! “boys” is not gender-neutral.and before you start with more hypotheticals, IT WOULD BE OKAY to refer to a group of people all of the same gender with a gender-specific term. most sports teams, for example. it is not okay for ITS.

This just in: boys is no longer a gendered word. I’ll remember this when cheering for women’s sports teams and referring to my breasts.

It’s a figure of speech. “Boys” is simply referring to the ITS organization as a whole, which I readily acknowledge contains both men and women. I’m not trying to be sexist or anything. Would you have any problems if I had said “Nicely done, fellas?” What about “Nicely done, friends?” Or even “Nicely done, guys?” I’m sorry if my colloquialism offended the overly PC contingent that reads this blog. With that said, I have made the edit in the interest of not detracting from the primary point of the post. And in the interest of getting this back on topic…I would assume the WesCard office, which handles all things laundry, would be the go-to organization for LaundryView. Considering the current budget crunch and apparent suspension of the program to put WesCard readers on every vending machine (the snack machine in Hewitt and most, if not all, of the machines in Exley have non-functional readers), I wouldn’t bet on it happening anytime soon, though.

i was assuming the edit hadn’t been made because ben hadn’t been online to check the comments yet, but apparently he has (at 7:18). i now switch from giving him the benefit of the doubt to saying that he really needs to change it. like maybe now.how about just “nicely done”?

yo seriously, edit that. even if ITS were all male, “nicely done, boys” is condescending and awkwardly personal in this context. and ITS is also not all male, so it doesn’t even make sense to say so.

There actually is a system just like this one for laundry machines. It’s called LaundryView, and I know at least one of our peer schools (Colby) has it.

Can ITS please do this for the laundry rooms!!! It would be the greatest thing to know when a washing machine is open before lugging everything down in the cold, only to find that they’re already taken.
