More LIFE Photos: Roth’s Dapper Predecessor

And a series of 1968 photos of Wesleyan’s then-president, the dapper alumnus Edwin D. Etherington, at home with his family:Etherington was the president of the American Stock Exchange before taking over at Wesleyan, and was a staunch civil rights advocate who got Wes to admit women and increase minority student enrollment. Plus he’s got a serious Don Draper thing going on:

    Etherington was brought to wesleyan (from the American Stock Exchange) to continue the economic prosperity that was seen during Butterfield’s presidency. He did a very good job of fucking everything up. Respect though for the civil rights stuff…

    well, if by fucking things up, 1:12pm, you mean admitting women (eventually, in numbers equal to men), I guess I’m glad he fucked things up.

    I LOL at the Don Draper vid. I even see a little bit of “Madmen” in those old photos.
