Mike Pernick ’10, incumbent WSA President, sends the following statement:
Hey folks, Mike Pernick here. Can you believe it’s almost election time again? I’ve had the honor of spending the last year serving as your WSA President, and I’d like you to send me back to finish the job I’ve started. This has been a truly remarkable year for the WSA, a year we’ve spent proudly standing up for students. Among many things, we’ve dealt with budget cuts, handled concerns over fire safety, and improved transportation options. I keep hearing how this is the first year in a long time that students feel they can truly count on the WSA to advocate on their behalf.
As you may know, my current Vice President Saul Carlin ’09 is graduating this year. That’s why I’m extremely excited to introduce Becky Weiss ’10 as my running mate. Over the last two years, Becky has served as a central figure in the WSA and has accumulated a strong track record of meaningful reforms that have directly improved student life. Leaders like Becky have kept the WSA working on the issues that matter most. I hope to have the opportunity to continue the WSA’s work with her next year.
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll tell you more about us, what we’ve done, and what we’re going to do next year. Feel free to email me at mpernick@wes or Becky at rweiss@wes, or visit our Facebook Event. And regardless of how you end up voting, please do vote—the election will be held from April 20 until April 24. You can cast your vote on the new WSA website.
Elections for WSA President and Vice President will be held April 20 through April 24. Wesleying is an equal opportunity advertiser of election candidates.
I’m a “colored” person, and we both associate with each other and work together. Cut out the hate.

Becky is level-headed, fair, and thoughtful. I’ll be proud to have her as VP of the WSA next year

Amazingly insightful comment… No wait I’m lying, that was just pointless drivel. It is great that you used an intelligent and well thought argument to dissuade voters. Whether or not you personally feel that Michael Pernick talked down to you, is irrelevant to the overall point that he has proven over the last year to be diligent and effective. I notice you also didn’t mention Becky although with your style of “mentioning” that is probably a good thing. I’m also not sure why you put in your last line since it reeks of jealousy (as if your entire post did not). Did you lose to Mike in an election or do you just like the WSA? Either way I call upon all readers of this overly long comment to see the previous comment as an advirtisement for Pernick\Weiss. When that is the beat opposition you can come up with it is almost a compliment. Hell, I’d vote for Pernick on your recommendation alone.

no 6, no, its incredibly important that there is continuity in the WSA, someone who has relationships with administrators and student leaders can be much more effective and Mike and Becky have been incredibly effective since they started on the WSA as freshmen, so crying “new blood” just for the sake of having someone new is contrary to your interests.

Overthrow the dynasty! Overthrow the dictatorship! New blood in the WSA!

I think there’s been drama, but nothing near the craziness of past years. SJB/WSA relations, Fire Safety, and Eclectic were all resolved with the help of the WSA. Fire Safety policy changes, and WSA process advisers for the SJB should be really helpful.

@3:06 Blame game is right – you’re blaming the WSA for the Eclectic fiasco they had nothing to do with?
Mike has done a fantastic job defending the students against worsening encroachments on their rights.

After all of the incendiary emails that have been sent out damaging relationships between different student groups, such as the SJB and WSA. “Fire Safety on the Hunt?” And the Eclectic fiasco? What a blame game!
I’m not sure if I want Mike speaking for me anymore.
( I posted this somewhere else on accident)

Seems like a no brainer to me. Will anyone even bother to run against them?

After a year of policies that have steadily increased the student community’s voice in the governance of the school and reduced the burden of fines levied by Fire Safety, I think it is fantastic that he is running for president again. I’m sorry to see Saul Carlin go, but Becky Weiss is an extremely capable replacement. I look forward to their further leadership in the Fall, and put my support firmly behind their run for re-election.
