April 20th is on a Monday this year, and sadly thus not part of Wesfest festivities as in recent years.
In fact, it looks like the admissions office will actively try to avoid this lucky coincidence in the future, according to last year’s “Blunt Refusal” Argus article:
In general, Koerting said, Admissions actually is planning a new direction for WesFest.
“Admissions has said that they have decided that if WesFest is on 4/20 they’ll move it to a different week,” she said. “After two consecutive years of hazy smoke on Foss Hill, it gives the impression that anything goes on here. On any other day, though, you can’t just smoke pot on the hill.”
[…] WesFest’s periodic overlap with the annual pot holiday has never been intentional, said Admissions Program and Events Coordinator Stephanie Pruitt.
Which is too bad, but I guess it took them long enough to catch on…

“…two consecutive years of hazy smoke on Foss Hill…”
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.
Maybe it’s just an invitation to split the festivities between two days?

except she just said she’s move it if it landed on 4/20.

actually, wesfest always falls on the third weekend of april regardless of the dates. so in 2012, 4/20 will be wesfest friday.

there is no way that wesfest has “accidentally” been on 4/20 in the past. ever. unless the administration is REALLY ignorant.

Obviously she can’t come out and say “smoke weed whenever you want.” However ridiculous, smoking pot is still illegal, and an administrator simply cannot publicly condone breaking the law. To me, the fact that we CAN smoke pot on the hill any other day is enough – I don’t need to feel like I have anyone’s support to do so. I’m sure they could prevent people from smoking on days other than 4/20 if they really wanted to. Don’t be too terrified, both you and the fun at Wes will be fine.

The thing is though, on any other day you CAN smoke pot on the hill. I’m a senior and I’m terrified of graduation, but I’m equally terrified about the death of fun here at Wesleyan. Suck it Fran.
