As a part of the national Live from Death Row tour, Wesleyan will be host to Lawrence Hayes, a former Black Panther and death row prisoner, who spent 20 years in prison for a murder he did not commit:
Since his release in 1991, Lawrence Hayes has been an outspoken opponent to the death penalty. In addition to Hayes’ perspective, we will also hear from two current death row inmates live via speakerphone, John Booth-El, who has been on death row in Maryland for 25 years and Stanley Howard, a former death row prisoner and torture victim who is still imprisoned in Illinois and is a contributor to the New Abolitionist. This event is co-sponsored by WesAmnesty, Ujamaa, 200 Church, Malcolm X House, Wesprep and Women of Color House.
