The Wesleyan Spirits will be having their Spring Jam concert on Friday, May 22 at 6:00 pm in the Butterfield B Lounge. Come see our three lovely seniors Owen Bennion, Ben Roberts, and Allie Levey ’09 in their last Jam concert at Wesleyan.
Seriously, what else do you have to do?
Date: Friday, May 22nd Time: 6:00 PM Place: Butterfield B Lounge
Stop by the Zelnick Pavilion and check out the Environmental Justice photography show.
Environmental Justice (EJ) investigates the inequitable environmental burdens borne by minorities, women, the impoverished, and residents of developing nations. Specifically, EJ explores how environmental degradation disproportionately affects the most disadvantaged and disenfranchised members of our planet.
The Photography, by Micah Feiring’11, has an entirely local focus. All pictures document areas within Middletown or the greater Middlesex area. Areas of interest include Wesleyan’s own facilities and a nearby CRRA recycling plant.
If you’re going home to New York this weekend, or if you’re looking for a way to get off campus before Senior Week, go check out Wesleyan’s own reggae/dub/funk/soul band Buru Style. They’ll be backing former Soulive singer Toussaint Liberator at the famous Blue Note jazz club.
Buru Style has really taken flight this year and this is just more proof: if you’re not aware of the Blue Note – well, it’s kind of a big deal.
Place: Blue Note, Greenwich Village, 131 W 3rd St. (between Macdougal and 6th) Time: Friday, 12-2 AM Cost: $8
Looking for rare music albums, cool DVDs and T-shirts, and other music collectibles? You’ll find over 30 record and CD dealers from the tri-state area at this weekend’s Cromwell Record and CD Riot. See recordriots.com for more information.
Date: Sunday, May 17 Time: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM Place: Crowne Plaza Hotel (100 Berlin Road, Cromwell) Cost: $3
Need a study break? The New Group will be having their final concert in one hour.
Oh my goodness! It’s the most fantastic thing! There’ll be suggestive dancing and audience participation, all 100% free! Most of all, it’s our final concert with our beautiful seniors Liana Hernandez ’09, Jon Short ’09, Tess Smagorinsky ’09, and Marika Tabilio ’09! So come get that body ready for beach season by shakin’ those buns with the New Group! Jon will be offering free waxings! You don’t want to look like this guy, do you?
Date: Tonight, May 13 Time: 9:30 PM Place: Crowell Concert Hall
President Roth has announced a memorial service to be held this week for Johanna Justin-Jinich ’10:
I invite you to join with Johanna’s family, friends, and teachers for a celebration of her life and learning at Wesleyan. Johanna’s friends ask that you wear bright colors if you are able to attend.
Written memories or thoughts of Johanna are being collected to be incorporated into Memory Books by Johanna’s friends for her family. If you would like to submit a thought, memory, photo or drawing, please bring it to the service or send it to Dean Marina Melendez by June 7.
The service is apparently open to members of the “Wesleyan University community” only; Wes IDs will be checked at the door. Simulcasts will be arranged should the Chapel fill to capacity.
Date: Thursday, May 14 Time: 7:00 PM; doors open at 6:15 PM Place: Memorial Chapel
Join FUSION for some hip-hop groovin’ in what’ll be the last show for the group’s senior members. Come watch them take the stage and see the debut of Charlie Krem ’12 and Jake Hunt ’12, too. Get ready for some funkyfreshness, starting at 11:00 sharp.
Come take a break from studying or procrastinating and join Waiting In Line for their final concert. BYO cocktails to sip on while they serenade you with songs that will make you squeal.
But what makes this show so special is that it is their last performance of the year, and the last show with Joe Newman ’09 and Carmen Melillo ’09, two wonderful (and sexy) men. So, fix yourselves some cocktails, enjoy them while comfortably sitting in the seats, of PAC, and watch their spectacular extravaganza unfold.
Date: Wednesday, May 13 Time: 8:00 PM Place: PAC 001
Here is last year’s trailer to get you pumped for the madness:
