Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts (CFA), under the direction of Pamela Tatge, announces its 2009-2010 Season. The Breaking Ground Dance Series, celebrating its 10th anniversary, opens with the Stephen Petronio Dance Group performing the storm-inspired work I Drink the Air Before Me. The center’s Crowell Concert Series continues with performances by Cajun music legends Balfa Toujours, Omar Sosa and the Afreecanos Quartet, the Shanghai String Quartet and others.
In September, the Ezra and Cecile Zilkha Gallery presents Paul Villinski: Emergency Response Studio, an exhibition that incorporates a Gulfstream trailer, among other elements, to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
In October, the Navaratri Festival of offers several nights of Indian music and dance culminating in one jam-packed weekend. Disfarmer (Everyday Uses for Sight No. 6: Disfarmer), a recent work by visionary puppeteer Dan Hurlin, is the highlight of this year’s Outside the Box theater series.
