I don’t really like spreadsheets very much. But I do like being able to check and see how I’m doing on points for the semester. So instead of doing any of my schoolwork yesterday, I wrote a little webapp that does the job of the points spreadsheet. (Or at least the parts of the job that I care about.)
It’s here.
A few caveats:
- It’s written entirely in JavaScript. I don’t really know JavaScript. So the code is rather a mess and it may not work perfectly yet.
- It’s not going to give you the exact same results as the points spreadsheet. This is because the points spreadsheet (at least the current one) doesn’t seem to take into account fall and Thanksgiving breaks, and also doesn’t include the exam period (or at least the end of it). Right now, the webapp does take into account the breaks, and all of the exam period. It mostly evens out. Neither approach is perfect. After I do the work I should have been doing yesterday I’ll add a few more options to make the webapp more accurate.
- I’ve only tested this in Firefox running on Fedora Linux. It should be fine in any standards-compliant browser (Safari, Chrome, Opera), and is probably going to be ok in IE too.
If you want to see something added or have a problem, let me know in the comments.

Jess: Thanks :)
2: It’s taking the current date from your computer. So if your computer’s date is wrong, the date it uses is going to be wrong.
The only problem is that it is actually september. This thing thinks we are much farther into the semester than we actually are.

Haha, Sam, you’re awesome. This is soo nifty. I also love the changes to the layout. All of this could be told to you in person, but I think it’s so much more poignant in a comment, don’t you?
