Food Not Bombs co-founder (and delightful storyteller) Keith McHenry will discuss the history, principles and current actions of the Food Not Bombs  movement and share tales from his 30 years of personal involvement for which he spent two years in jail and faced life in prison in California.

Food Not Bombs, an anti-authoritarian, anti-hunger, anti-military (dis)organization, shares free vegan and vegetarian meals with the hungry in over 1,000 cities around the globe each week. Come listen to a man who has dedicated his life to battling inequality and cooked up one of the most vibrant social movements in the world almost by accident. Representatives of the now legal FNB Middletown operation will also be around. It’s an anti-Election Day spectacular!

Date: Wednesday, 11/4
Time: 7:00 -8:00 PM
Place: PAC 002
Cost: Free

Keith Mc Henry speaks for Keith McHenry, and only Keith McHenry. Food not Bombs is not and has never been an organization. 501(c) 3 or otherwise. Food not Bombs is an Anarchist movement, NO LEADERS. Keith McHenry has hijacked the Taos Peace House web site and has placed slanderous lies about alleged violence and injury at the Taos Peace house. I,Dwight McCright am Volunteer co-coordinator for Viva Bikes, the Not for profit organization that has administered the Homeless Recourses program at the Taos Peace House, and I have been live-in Caretaker for Taos Peace House since August this year (2009). There have been no acts of violence at the Peace house since I have been there and no reported acts of violence by anyone associated with the Peace House off site. Anyone interested can check the Taos Police Blotter at the Taos News as they publish every police call made in the town of Taos.
Mr. Mchenry has also asked, on our high jacked web site, for supporters of the Peace House to send contributions meant for Taos Peace House, a 501(c) 3 organization, to him personally, in the name of Food not Bombs. Again Food not bombs is not and never will be a legal 501(c) 3 organization, by their own stated principles, and they have NO LEADERS. or any accountability structure and to date have only two FNB local chapters that have chosen to incorporate as legal 501© 3 organizations Any contributions Mr. McHenry collects will no doubt go into his own personal pocketbook.
The dispute Mr. McHenry has with the Peace House, In my opinion, stems from his attempt to gain control of the TPH corporate paperwork and access their accounts in order to gain funding and protect funding collected by him that is currently taxable without him gaining not for profit status.
Unable to accomplish this he has done everything possible to sabotage the Peace House and all of its associate groups. Since his name was on the rental agreement for the Peace House he had possessor rights and therefore terminated his rental agreement and legally evicted the other members and organizations that operated from the house.
That is why the Peace House is now homeless. We are moving forward from this debacle and will be re-established in another location, hopefully by the first of the year. Homeless Resources is currently operating in various locations, both private and business. Viva Bikes/Homeless Recourses Is takings the bikes to the Bike farm and will be restoring bikes for spring and building bike trailers and contraptions for premiere in the spring.
All other associate groups, Veterans for Peace, Taos CAN, And Food not Bombs sans Mr. McHenry, are welcome to utilize All of the resources of the Taos Peace House as we know our greatest resource is ourselves, and we are never truly homeless, only occasionally houseless as we Taosenos know, this is our home and this is our community, and we all truly are at home here.
It was the Taos community that welcomed FNB BEFORE Mr. McHenry ever established a home here in Taos a mere two years ago, and the FNB movement has always been supported by me personally and the Taos community in general, and as Anarchists, I cannot speak for those that share those socio-political views, but just listen I am sure they will make their voices heard. As an Anarchist I take personal responsibility for my actions and if Mr. McHenry has any Anarchist cohones he will take responsibility for his.

i’m with #2; there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the military. sure, there is certainly reason to believe that they act badly in some situations or waste money in some others, but that’s not to say that we wouldn’t be a LOT worse off with a much weaker one.
and re #4, what’s so bad about nations? societies of mutual aid sound nice on paper, but they never hold up in concept, and all real-life examples of them can barely match up to the prosperity and stability brought by a mixed-market, federal system that many successful countries possess.

And, because they are anti-authoritarian, FNB believes that people would be better off without not only the military, but nations (nation-states) all together. Rather, they work toward a non-hierarchical,decentralized society based on mutual aid.

to answer your question number 2, by anti-military it means that food not bombs believes that money should be spent by nations securing the basic needs of their people (like food) rather than expending huge military budgets which escalate world violence
