Jill Hunting will discuss writing memoir at Russell House tomorrow evening.
Jill Hunting is a writer, editor, and radio essayist. Her “Perspective” commentaries for San Francisco NPR-affiliate KQED are posted at her web site. Her writing has appeared in The Washington Post Magazine, The Wine Journal, and The Los Angeles Times. She was senior editor and a feature writer at Vine Napa Valley and Appellation: Wine Country Living magazines. Finding Pete: Rediscovering the Brother I Lost in Vietnam, Jill Hunting’s new book, is an example of what has been called a trend in life writing: the researched or documented memoir. Her personal narrative explores her quest to understand the older brother who died in Vietnam and the family that didn’t talk about it. Alternating chapters reconstruct Pete’s life in Vietnam as a civilian volunteer, based on 175 of his recovered letters. Jill has traveled to Vietnam twice, in 1991 and 2006. She has a B.A. in American Studies from Wheaton College (Massachusetts) and an M.A. in Values from San Francisco Theological Seminary.
