New WesMaps is Up

Oooh, goodness. Wesmaps for next year is up and running. Word of warning: everything is still preliminary and none of the information listed is final. I’m sure there will be lots of shuffling around before pre-registration rolls around in April.

I always love looking at the names of FYIs. There will be a long waiting list of frosh eager to take “American Food,” which wins the prize for most titillating name, if you ask me. Most yawn-inducing FYI course title: “Applied Data Analysis.” Yuck. And the award for most meta course goes to … (drumroll) … “Education in Society: Universities as Agents of Change, Ivory Towers, or Knowledge Factories.” See Jane matriculate. Matriculate, Jane, matriculate! See Jane question the intrinsic value of hegemonic institutions of learning. Question, Jane, question!

*edit by Sam* I’m going to second that word of warning: this is not final, and there have been multiple changes since I looked at it last week.

I took American Food last semester. Indeed there were a lot of frosh wanting to get in it at the beginning of the year until they realized how much reading it required. Still a fun class. We watched Food, Inc. and Soylent Green, among others.

I actually took that Education in Society FYI as a freshman… it’s honestly a fantastic course

This is *not* actually posted. It’s just that the name of the link is guessable, so you can see earlier than you’re supposed to it if you know where to look.

this DOES seem early. does anyone know when we begin registration, like pre-registration and such? and then when the live registration period begins (course adjustment)? couldn’t find it online…

this seems rather early, no? I guess the info is just preliminary, so maybe it’s not too early. No matter — I am senior, so I can only look upon these great classes with sadness and regret at missed opportunities. I hope everyone else has a fun time browsing!
