More than a month late- but still……

You guys are SSSSSOOOOOO ignorant and unaccepting of what you are against (intolerant- hate to use the word).

This person was and still is entitled to practice her faith and hold her prayer groups off and ON campus. If part of her faith is inviting all people to pray to the God that SHE knows, she has more than enough freedom to do so without being attacked for it. Did people forget where we are?

I mean, you might as well walk around burning down signs and schedules of services in front of churches. It is so ridiculous.

To threaten to invade her prayer time is absurd and is really offensive. Since when does inviting people to share your God with mean that it MUST be interfaith?

    Wesleyan sucks.

And I PROMISE and certainly know that if this was a call to any other faith, including Judaism and Buddhism, that she would not be facing this. This is so religious discrimination.

Has anyone ever thought about how Interfaith praying can be offensive? To have to completely dismiss YOUR God and pray to some intangible thing? Do you stop to think how that might be weird for a Christian, when they believe there is one way to the Father?
No- cuz no one cares about the Christian voice on campus.

But no one freaks out with Vespers because Wesleyan is so biased towards anything popular- except Apple, of course!

“secular humanist,” are you for real? please tell me you are 16 years old and are just figuring out NOW that “organized religion” is bad. the “religious machinery”? okay, take your canned responses and run far away. obviously Gloria is not exercising ANY slightest bit of hegemony, she’s just inviting people to pray — advertising her club — just like everyone else here advertises Passover or Shabbat services or MSA events (that happens, you know).

So please, please, do us all a favor and grow up.stop thinking you’re saving the world by combating the “machine”

EVERYONE is invited to pray? That’s absolutely ridiculous. Why would anyone who isn’t Christian go if the goal is to pray to Jesus? This is an attempt at proselytizing, plain and simple, not an “uplifting” message of tolerance. Hegemonic groups always claim that they’re tolerant, as long as you’re willing to believe what they do and act like they do. That’s not tolerance, it’s dominance. Smash the religious machinery, free the human mind.

Why are people at this school so stupid and insensitive? Thank god I’ll be leaving soon.

I personally think it’s really nice and admirable that not only “Christians” but EVERYONE is invited to prayer.

It is clear, Orion, that the sender of this post does not condone a Jesus or Christianity that hates gays or anything/anyone Wesleyan-friendly. Clearly she is aiming towards an all-inclusive prayer session that ANYONE is welcome to attend, regardless of denomination, of gender, of religion, or anything!

Considering the general message of close-mindedness we associate with “Jesus” nowadays, it’s refreshing and beautiful, I think, that EVERYONE is invited to pray. As someone who is completely uninterested in praying, now or ever, with anyone or to anything, I still found Gloria’s message uplifting. And whatshername — great response, as always.

    whatsername,

I think what people were mostly commenting on is the fact that so much of what this school is about goes against popular Christian values. So to “seek the heart God has for Wesleyan” does seem a little ironic (considering the Bible’s stance on gays).

As for me, I do criticize Christianity, but I also criticize ALL religion. I think it is healthy to have your beliefs challenged.

seriously people leave this girl alone. people from marginalized religions should know better than anyone that no one should be made to feel weird for being the religious minority. if you don’t want to participate, scroll past it – the prayer isn’t hurting anyone.

@#6– This has nothing to do with being a victim. I don’t think Christianity’s status as the dominant religion in this country is any reason for people to make derisive comments on this post. That’s really all I’m saying.

    Also, I’m definitely not Christian.

@ #4: Stop acting like the victim. Christians dominate EVERYWHERE in America. This is the one place where you don’t feel marginalized for not being Christian.

  19. Check it

No. It’s not fucking to ALL fucking students at Wesleyan if it’s christianity. If she wants to make it open to all christians then she should label it as such.

If she really wanted it to be open to everyone it would be either an open discussion or something for interfaith. This isn’t open to all students. In fact it’s fucking ridiculous.

    Jesus fucking christ.

Guys, I know it’s in fashion to mock Christianity at this school, but this is an earnest attempt to bring people of the same faith together. I don’t think it’s too difficult to not be disrespectful in this instance. If it’s not your thing, just scroll on past it.
