Wesleyan softball became the first team other than Tufts or Williams to win a NESCAC title this afternoon with a 10-1 win over Bowdoin at Williams. Wes also defeated Tufts (the four-time defending NESCAC champion) 13-3 and Bowdoin 12-6 en route to its first conference championship and just the fifth in school history (joining 2009 men’s lacrosse, 2005 men’s soccer, 1987 golf, and 1984 women’s cross country).
Wes had two cracks at Bowdoin today, but the Mainers wouldn’t go down easily. Wes held a 2-1 lead in the first game, but Bowdoin rallied with four runs in the 6th for a 5-2 win, setting up the winner-take-all game 7. After two scoreless innings, Wes scored eight times in the bottom of the 3rd for an 8-0 lead. Meaghan Dendy ’10 got it started with a one-out double and scored on an error on a grounder hit by Tori Redding ’13. After a flyout, Talia Bernstein ’11 and Dana Levy ’12 singled and Sam Epstein ’12 walked to load the bases for Taylor Zavadsky ’10, who absolutely crushed a ball over the fence in left for a grand slam. Redding later singled home two more runs to give Wes an eight-run lead. The Cards made it 10-0 on a two-run home run by Epstein, her school-record sixth of the season, in the 4th.
Also in the records department, Dendy picked up her school-record 39th career win today and has also set the seasonal RBI (34) and career hits (185) marks, and Bernstein now holds the seasonal doubles record (11). As a team, Wes has already eclipsed the program records for hits (376), runs (263), RBI (220), doubles (66), and home runs (21).
NCAA tournament pairings will be announced at noon Monday, but Wes is likely headed to Rhode Island College (one of eight regional host sites). Check out ncaa.com or the Wesleyan website for the latest.

@1: As I have said before, this is a blog about all things Wesleyan, not just those that interest you. Also, I can tell you that as much as you may not want to believe it, there are lots of people on this campus that read the sports section, and if you’re going to slam me and my staff like that, at least grow a set and have the decency to include your name with your comment.
why is this on wesleying? cant we save the sports victories/losses for that part of the argus that no one reads?
