Slam Poetry Team General Interest Meeting

Mike Rosen ’11 writes in:

Good People of All Shapes and Sizes,

I’m writing to let you know that you no longer have to close your blinds and hide under the covers every time you blow the dust off that old Whitman book you keep disguised behind your “Almanac of Socially Acceptable Hobbies.” That’s right. No longer will you cower in shame in Olin every time you cry a little too obviously watching Ken Arkind or get a little too inspired while watching Saul Williams. Poets, the time has come to step out of the shadows and into . . . Usdan!

This Sunday we’ll be holding a general meeting for anyone interested in being part of the inaugural Wesleyan University Slam Poetry Team, whether they’ve never written a poem in their life or are international slam champions. So, anyone who has any interest, whether it’s in being on the team or helping to decide what poets we bring to campus as features for our soon-to-be-monthly slam events, should stop by Writers Bloc this Sunday in Usdan Room 110, which is on the main floor near the quick-mart version of upstairs from 4 – 5:30 (meeting will take place at end of Bloc) to hear what’s up and put their names down in the Book of Life.¬†

Film Series: “Pulp Fiction”

1994. USA. Dir. Quentin Tarantino. With John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson. 154 min.

If you’ve seen it you want to see it again. If you haven’t, you’ve told all your friends that you have so you might as well stop living that lie and check it out.

DATE: Tonight, September 24
PLACE: CFS, Goldsmith Family Cinema

Floorboard Blues

From Jan Marie ’11:

Low-lights, chill vibes, close encounters, and everything from janky guitar to smooth piano blues music: this is how WESwing & Blues likes to party.

Come dance with us. If you don’t know how to dance, we’ll teach you, or help you make it up as the night goes on.

This is a fundraiser to help us bring Fly Machine to play live on Halloween. So we’re asking for a $5 donation. But if you don’t have $5, come anyway. We like bodies.

Oh, and prepare to be cuddled. Hardcore.

  • Date: Friday, September 24
  • Time: 10 PM – 1:00 AM
  • Place: Vinnie’s Jump & Jive, 424 Main Street
  • Cost: $5
