Roof by Roof, Yard by Yard: Sustainable Agriculture and Community Organizing in Mexico

Come hear Kiado Cruz, from RASA in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, Mexico (La Red Autónoma por la Soberanía Alimentaria: The Autonomous Network for Food Sovereignty) talk about Roof by Roof, Yard by Yard: Sustainable Agriculture and Community Organizing in Mexico.

RASA is a spin-off of UniTierra, a university that concentrates on indigenous forms of education like mentoring and apprenticeship, community service, and environmental/community sustainability. RASA is an ever-increasing city-wide network of people who are learning, and then teaching, inner-city gardening and rediscovering food roots. They are reclaiming their complex agricultural and culinary heritage, “roof by roof, yard by yard.”

Senor Cruz will be speaking of sustainable agriculture and community organizing as positive responses to US policy in Mexico. He will be knowledgeable in trade issues, migration, and privatization, as well. The talk will be an opportunity to enrich the dialogue between those in Latin America and in the US who are: creating and supporting local food systems and local economies; engaging in education reform; advocating for immigration reform; and/or promoting fair international trade.
