Wesleyan University’s Theater Department presents William Shakespeare’s Richard III, directed by Visiting Professor David B. Jaffe. Richard of Gloucester is consumed by one desire: to be crowned King of England, and his unwavering ambition will ensure that no one stands between him and the throne. A work of enormous student-driven collaboration has produced this new adaptation of Richard III. A ten-member cast plays more than 20 characters within an arena-like set of scaffolding, cables, and chain-link fencing. Two actors play Richard simultaneously, while an ensemble of eight actors fulfill all other characters in the play, all against a powerful musical score provided by Wesleyan’s advanced Taiko drumming ensemble.
