Hurricane Hadge Makes Landfall at Freeman

Another day, another enormous win for men’s ice hockey. Fresh off the first win over Middlebury in program history, Wes took down defending national champion Norwich, which entered the game ranked third in the country, 5-2, thanks in no small part to 47 saves from Matt “Hurricane” Hadge ’13 (main photo).

After a scoreless first period, Wes was outshot 18-5 in the second, but four of the Cards’ shots found the back of the net as Anthony DePietto ’11, John Guay ’13 (who had the game-winner at Middlebury), Adam Kaiser ’13, and Geoff Mucha ’12 spotted Wes a 4-0 lead at intermission. After Norwich made it 4-1 in the third, Nik Tasiopoulos ’14 answered back 13 seconds later to make it 5-1, before Norwich scored again late.

Wes has beaten Norwich only twice in program history in 18 all-time meetings, having also beaten the Cadets 4-1 in the 2006-07 season. The Cards will look to make it three straight over Vermont foes Saturday when they host St. Michael’s at 3:00.
