Wesleyan poetic culture proves it’s still alive and kicking tomorrow night at ADP! But in order to take the edge off, there will be no judges or scores, but in the words of Michael Rosen ’11, “just a night of poetry, music, and good company.” More from Mr. Rosen:
A music and poetry concert where the house band will accompany and back poets as they take to the stage. We’ve assembled some of Wesleyan’s most talented musicians to back feature poets Morgan Hill ’14, Camara Awkward-Rich ’11, Ryan Rodger ’11, Teju Adisa-Farra ’13 and Simone Moore ’11, so this is bound to be a dandy. Signups are totally open, all styles of poetry are welcome, and with no judges to get in the way what a welcoming place it’ll be!
As for the question of musical accompaniment, Rosen says that “poets will have the option of having the band play along with them (vibing off the rhythm and tone of the piece) or rocking solo.” He also encourages extraneous musicians to bring their instruments and cut in with the house band for a little bit if it so pleases them. This jam, he says, is in the spirit of similar events that occurred throughout the Harlem Renaissance and Beat eras.
