“Espwesleying, if you don’t mind”: Espwesso Opens Wednesday, Hires Errday

Espwesleying, an underground collaboration ‘twixt Espwesso and Wellesleying, is the second-hottest supergroup on the internet right now (#1). Turns out we’re dropping some new fire (“fiyah”, as you may have heard pronounced by savvy urban youth) this Wednesday night! If y’all haven’t heard, here’s the lowdown from Cache Job Engineer ’13:

Hey there, Brown students! Espwesso will resume normal hours of operation (Sunday-Thursday 9pm-1am) starting this Wednesday, the 7th. Hooray! For those of you who aren’t familiar with the best spot on campus to get free coffee (yes, frosh, that’s right, fucking free coffee. tasty stuff, too) Espwesso is an entirely student-run cafe in the basement of Albritton Center (room 003), that provides free drip coffee to the late-night Wesleyan community (donations are accepted/highly recommended) and gourmet espresso drinks for a small suggested donation. The cafe focuses on exposing the Wesleyan community to high quality specialty coffee through paying special care to coffee sourcing and best practices.

Also, Espwesso is hiring! We have an opening for a new barback/barista trainee (Workstudy ONLY, sorry guys). This is a training position that prepares you to work as a barista at Espwesso the following semester. Baristas at Espwesso are responsible for making drinks, taking suggested per-drink donations, and cleaning and maintaining the cafe space. As a barback, you will…

…work one to two 9pm-11pm shifts a week. You will be working during our busy periods, at the same time as a barista, and will be responsible for working the register station, brewing drip coffee and anything else the barista needs so that they can make drinks as fast as possible. You will receive 3-5hrs of mandatory paid training from the cafe manager over the course of the semester. Satisfactory completion of a semester’s work as a barback will make you eligible to become a barista, which will involve a raise and the requirement of working at least one 5 hour shift a week. We are seeking students who are willing to commit sustained time and energy to this cafe, preferably underclassmen but upper classfolks are welcome to apply. Food-service, and especially cafe, experience is a plus but not a requirement. If interested, please email Jacob Eichengreen ’13 (jeichengreen@@@wesleyan…edu) a resume and short answers to the following questions by this THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th.

1. Are you work study? THIS IS A WORK STUDY ONLY POSITION
2. What days Sunday-Thursday are you available to work 9:00pm-11:00pm
3. Why do you want to work at the cafe?
4. What other activities and organizations do you take part in during the school year?
5. Given free reign, what are some albums you’d listen to during your shift?
6. What sorts of activities give you creative outlet and inspiration?

Important note: the listing for this position on the WSA job board incorrectly lists Alex Bernson ’11 as the contact for Espwesso. Anyone interested in the position or with questions about the cafe, etc should contact Jacob Eichengreen ’13 – updating the job board posting is proving to be a drawn out process. Again. Don’t contact Alex. Contact Jacob.

Whew, that was a mouthful! Seems pretty cool, though. Maybe I’ll even apply to be a barback myse–WAIT INCOMIIIIIIIIIIIING OH GOD TAKE COVER MEN I WANT EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO MAKE IT BACK HERE ALIVE WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER THINK OF YOUR MOTHERS NOW READY CHAAAAAARGE AGHHHH OH GOOOOD HELP ME THEY’RE KILLING US RETREAT RETREAT NOOOOOOOOO LEWIS YOU FOOL COME BACK OH GOD LEWIIIIIIIIIS WHY IS THIS HAPPENING SWEET JESUS WAR IS HELL

Forgot to add that peeps should bring their own mug/water bottle/coffee container. In an effort to improve sustainability and remain open, starting next month or so we will begin asking for a small donation for cups – get in the habit now unless folks wanna throw down 17 cents every evening they need caffeine (coffee itself, including refills, will remain especially donation-based as always)

Guys, just to be clear: Espwesso doesn’t force you to pay for anything and is entirely available on (heavily) suggested donations. To quote founder Alex Bernson (’11), “espwesso very specifically does not “sell” or “require donations” for anything, due to contractual obligations between bon apetit and the school surrounding the usage of points.” Sorry if that wasn’t clear – I make a couple word choice edits to reflect that.
